VIDEO CONVERSION SYDNEY
VHS, MiniDV, Hi8 & Super 8 Transfer Services
Aria Infinity converts VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Hi8, Video8, Betacam, DVCam, Super 8 film and audio cassettes to digital formats including USB, hard drive and DVD
We're a professional video conversion business based in Merrylands, and we've been doing this for over 20 years turning old tapes and film reels into files people can actually watch again. VHS, MiniDV, Hi8, Video8, Betacam, Super 8 film, audio cassettes, if it's been sitting in a cupboard since the format went out of fashion, there's a good chance we can bring it back to life.
Most of our customers come from Parramatta and the surrounding Western Sydney suburbs, simply because we're close by and easy to get to there's parking right outside, and you can drop tapes off in person rather than posting them somewhere and hoping for the best. That said, we work with people from right across Sydney, and we're happy to talk through postal options if getting here isn't practical for you.
If you've got a box of tapes you keep meaning to deal with, this page will tell you what we convert, how the process works, and what it costs.
.
Why Convert Old Tapes to Digital?
Tape doesn't last. VHS, Hi8, and MiniDV were never built to survive thirty or forty years in a cupboard, and a lot of what comes through our door already shows it faded colour, patchy audio, the occasional bit of mould on tapes that have been stored somewhere damp. Once a tape gets to that point, every play makes it worse.
The bigger issue, honestly, is finding something to play them on. We still see working VCRs and Hi8 decks, but they're getting harder to come by, and once it needs repairs, sourcing parts isn't simple. We're not in any rush to scare people into action, but if you've got footage you actually care about, converting it while decent playback equipment is still around just makes sense.
Once it's a digital file, none of that is a problem. Copy it, back it up, send it to your sister in Melbourne, watch it on your TV it's just there, the way photos on your phone are just there.
Formats We Convert :
VHS to USB Conversion Sydney
VHS is what we convert most. It's also the format that's quietly sitting in the most garages and hallway cupboards across Sydney — recorded birthdays, school concerts, footy grand finals taped off the telly. VHS-C is the smaller cassette used in compact camcorders from the late '80s and '90s; it looks different but ages just as poorly as full-size VHS.
We play both on dedicated decks rather than a bog-standard VCR plugged into a cheap capture card, which is honestly where a lot of the quality difference comes from. Every tape gets a quick check before it goes anywhere near a player.
MiniDV Conversion Sydney
If your home videos are from anywhere between about 1998 and 2008, there's a fair chance they're on MiniDV. The footage itself usually holds up well it was a proper digital format even back then but the tapes are tiny, the mechanisms inside camcorders were fiddly, and tape path issues aren't unusual once a cassette has had a few decades to sit around. We use dedicated MiniDV decks for playback, which keeps the original quality intact rather than losing anything in a re-encode.
Hi8 & Video8 Conversion Sydney
Sony's Hi8 and Video8 camcorders were everywhere in the late '80s and through the '90s small, relatively cheap, and the reason so many Sydney families have a shoebox of little black cassettes somewhere. The decks that play them back are increasingly rare and not the kind of thing you find at a normal repair shop anymore. We've kept ours running and serviced, which is more than most places can say at this point.
Betacam & DVCam Conversion Sydney
These show up less often, usually from people with a corporate or production background old company archives, a wedding videographer's master tapes, footage from a small production house that's since closed down. Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, and DVCam are all formats we handle, converting them to standard digital files suitable for editing or archiving.
Super 8 Film Conversion Sydney
Super 8 is older than all of the above — proper film, not tape, usually from the '60s, '70s, or early '80s. It degrades differently to magnetic tape, but it's no less at risk, and once a reel is damaged there's often no getting that footage back. We digitise Super 8 frame by frame at high resolution, which keeps the texture and depth that makes old film actually look like film, rather than a flattened video copy of it.
Audio Cassette Conversion Sydney
Alongside video formats, we also convert audio cassettes to digital. Whether it's recorded music, family voice recordings, interviews, or archival audio, we transfer cassette audio to digital files delivered on USB or as downloads. Many customers are surprised by how much meaningful audio content they have sitting in old cassette collections conversations with relatives who have since passed, music from bands that never recorded elsewhere, or personal diaries recorded on tape

Why Choose Aria Infinity for Video Conversion in Sydney
We're based in Merrylands, not in a call centre interstate when you drop tapes off, you're handing them to the person who'll actually be doing the transfer, not a courier.
We use proper playback decks for each format rather than running everything through one cheap all-in-one converter. It's slower, but it's the only way to get a clean transfer from a forty-year-old tape.
Every tape is handled the way we'd want our own family footage handled inspected before playback, kept in order, and never left running unattended. If a tape looks like it's going to give us trouble, we'll tell you before we start, not after. We'd rather give you a realistic answer than a sales pitch.
Your originals always come back to you. We don't keep them, and we don't throw them out once the job's done, your tapes or reels go home with you alongside the digital copies.
Our Process
1. Inspection. Every tape or reel gets checked before it touches a player for mould, physical damage, brittleness, anything that might need attention first. If something looks risky, we'll call you before going further.
2. Conversion. We play the tape back on the right deck for that format and capture it in real time, watching for dropout or tracking issues as we go. There's no way to speed this part up it takes as long as the tape runs.
3. Quality check. Once it's captured, we actually watch it back to confirm it's complete and usable. If something went wrong during playback, we'd rather catch it ourselves than have you discover it later.
4. Delivery. Files are organised and clearly labelled, then delivered on USB, hard drive, or DVD whatever suits you along with your original tapes.
Service Areas
We're based in Merrylands, right in the middle of Western Sydney, and most of our regulars come from Parramatta, Granville, Guildford, Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, and Penrith. If you're further out across greater Sydney, get in touch and we can usually work something out, including postal drop-off if a visit isn't practical.
How long does video conversion take?
Turnaround time depends on the number of tapes, the format, and the total length of footage to be converted. Most standard jobs are completed within five to ten business days. If you have a specific deadline — an anniversary, a family event, or a memorial — let us know upfront and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
Can old or damaged VHS tapes still be converted?
In many cases, yes. We inspect every tape before playback and assess its condition honestly. Tapes with minor deterioration, sticky shed issues, or light mould can often still be transferred, sometimes with treatment beforehand. Severely damaged tapes may yield partial results — we'll always advise you on what's likely before proceeding.
Do you convert camcorder tapes?
Yes. We convert a wide range of camcorder formats including MiniDV, Hi8, Video8, VHS-C, Betacam, DVCam, and others. If you're unsure what format your tapes are, bring them in and we'll identify them for you.
What formats can you convert?
We work with VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, Video8, MiniDV, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, DVCam, Super 8 film, and audio cassettes. If you have a format not listed here, contact us — we may still be able to help or point you in the right direction.
Can I receive my files on USB or hard drive?
Yes. We offer delivery on USB drive, external hard drive, and DVD. If you have a preference or an existing drive you'd like us to use, just let us know when you bring your media in.
Are my original tapes returned after conversion?
Always. Your original media is returned to you in the same condition it arrived. We never retain or dispose of original tapes or film reels.
Do you offer video conversion services across Sydney?
Yes. Our workshop is based in Merrylands and is a convenient drop-off point for customers from Parramatta, Western Sydney, and surrounding suburbs including Granville, Guildford, Auburn, Bankstown, and Penrith.
